Welcome

We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the unceded territory of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ people (people of the safe harbour) who have lived along the west coast of Vancouver Island for thousands of years. The nuučaan̓uł (Nuu-chah-nulth) name for Hyphocus is Huumaniš.

Lot 543 Helen Road on Hyphocus Island

The lot on the southern end of Hyphocus Island, was purchased by MayWind Developments in 2022 with the intention to preserve some of the land for future generations and to enhance its value through development. To achieve this vision, an amendment to the Official Community Plan (OCP) and a rezoning of the site is required.

We are looking for your input on how to shape a neighbourhood that reflects the values and aspirations of the people who live here. We want to hear from you about your experiences, insights, creative and visionary ideas to help design a neighbourhood that meets the needs of local residents and respects the physical and cultural history of the land. This is an opportunity to create a new neighbourhood that respects the natural and cultural values of the island, while providing housing options for different needs and preferences. Your input will help us shape the future of this unique and beautiful island, where people can live, work, and play in harmony with nature and each other.

The consultant team has developed a preliminary concept plan to assess the feasibility of the project and to initiate a dialogue with the community. However, we value your input as the public and we want to know what you think about this project. This is an opportunity to help create a new neighbourhood that respects the natural and cultural values of the island, while providing a variety of housing options in a complete neighbourhood.
